Welcome to Nanny Judy's

Welcome to Nanny Judy's. A Place to Communicate with the Families in my Care.

I believe quality childcare makes a difference in the lives of children and their families. I hope to be a good support for working parents. Working in partnership with parents ensures that the needs of the family are met and promotes a sound foundation for children.

There are so many benefits to children being cared for at home. Home is warm and secure; the ideal setting for children to learn and grow. I strive to provide a nurturing and encouraging environment, with age appropriate activities and opportunities to explore. Each child will be cared for according to their individual needs. I believe children who are loved and cared for will in turn learn to love and care for others.

About Me

My photo
I am a Licensed Early Childhood Educator and Professional Ballet Teacher. Over the past 20 years I have taught preschool, daycare, managed my own LNR Family Daycare, and worked in private homes as a Nanny. My newest adventure is opening a Licensed In-Home Multi-Age Childcare. I have now opened Judy's Little Gems. Having a Licensed Childcare Facility in my home is so rewarding. Each day is brand new and exciting for both myself and the children! The word Nanny is very special to me. My British grandmother asked her grandchildren to call her Nanny. I hope to build great memories and relationships with children and families in my role as Nanny; just as my grandmother did.

 Health and Safety
Illness

Please call the house if your child is ill.
If a child becomes ill while in my care the parent(s) will be notified immediately.  I will contact the parents by phone at the numbers listed on the registration form.
Please be sure your work, cell phone and alternative contact people and numbers are up to date.

Every situation is different, however, three criteria will generally be used to determine if a child needs to be cared for by family members at their home:

1. The illness prevents the child from participating comfortably in our daily routine and activities.
2. The illness results in a greater need for care than the child care staff can provide without
compromising the health and safety of the other children.
3. A fever is present.

Hand Washing
To help control the spread of illness, children are required to wash before eating, after toileting and at other times throughout the day. Washing hands is the best way to prevent the spread of illness.

Medication
If medicine must be administered, the following policy applies. Medication that needs to be given to a child by Judy must be in the original, labeled, Doctor's prescribed bottle.
A  Permission to Administer Medication form must be filled out by a parent.
Over-the-counter medication may only be administered if I receive a signed note from the physician with the following information: child's name, name of prescribed medication, explanation of condition requiring medication, date and dosage. Also remember that cough drops may not be given as they are considered a choking hazard.
Nut Safe
In the event that there is a child who indicates a nut allergy, we will become a “Peanut and Nut Safe” home.  Since nut allergies can be life threatening a safe environment for these children will be provided.  This means that all adults and children will be asked to bring lunches free of peanut butter, peanuts, peanut oils or nuts and nut oils.

Persons Authorized to Pick Up
Children will be released from Judy’s care only to authorized persons whose names appear on the registration form, on a written note from the parent or written in the communication book. Please give Judy advance notice if someone else is picking up your child. Anyone who is picking up a child and is unfamiliar to Judy must show photo identification before the child can be released.

Sign-in and Sign-out
The sign-in/out sheet is an official document used to record the transfer of responsibility of your children, therefore we ask that you always sign in and out.

Sunscreen
If you would like your child to wear sunscreen please provide a bottle with your child’s name clearly labeled. Please try to avoid strong scented sunscreens. If you do not want your child wearing sunscreen please let Judy know. We do ask that all children have a sunhat.

Clothing
Please provide your child with play clothes. I offer art activities, water, sand, and outdoor play, so children need to wear clothing that allows them to move about freely and get dirty.
Every child needs to have an extra set of labeled clothing, including pants, shirt, underpants, and socks. Please check periodically to make sure they are seasonally appropriate and also to be sure your child has not outgrown the clothing. It is also important to replace items once they are used.
I do have some spare clothing that can borrowed and ask that you do return it upon washing.

Items from Home (For Children visiting or receiving care outside their home)
Toys and materials will be available to your child while in my care, however, sometimes a  transitional item may be needed to feel safe and secure. Such an item can ease that transition from the well known environment of your home to mine.   For many children this will be a blanket or a toy.  If personal items or toys are causing difficulty between children or that the child is not engaging in the surrounding environment, the item will be put safely away into their back pack.

Birthdays and Celebrations
Birthdays are an incredibly significant and special part of most children’s lives. For birthday celebrations, a birthday hat is made to acknowledge the special day and families are welcome to provide a special treat. Sometimes our lives can get busy, so if you are unable to provide a treat just let me know, I would be honoured to make something for the party.

Fees are to be paid prior to care at the beginning of each month. Post dated Cheques and e-transfers are welcome.

Termination of Care:
One months notice is required if your child is to leave Judy's Little Gems.

A minimum of 2 weeks notice is necessary prior to vacation time to hold my services in his or her absence.  You will be charged for the weeks that I care for your child that month.  If you require more vacation time throughout the year an agreement needs to be made with Judy or the full month’s fees will be due to hold your child’s space.  My income is based on providing childcare.

I will be taking a one week vacation in July and one week in August. July and August monthly fees will be based on 3 weeks of childcare.
